- See the Palaces. a must. all GOLD and just lavish and beautiful, you will not forget those paintings, too much to describe. The beaches are also A must go and enjoy. Try the different foods, spicy, but not HOT, the people are very friendy and helpful.. I'm sure you will love it. Have a good time.....
- Mmmmm...I spent 3 weeks in Fiji last Christmas and it was fantastic! The best time that we had...there is a group of islands off the coast of Nadi called The Yasawa's (spelling?). There are dozens of small islands to choose from with wonderful resorts, some more primative than others. We stayed at a resort called Koavo (spelling) which is about 3 hours on a ferry and had one of the best xmas's ever. Each small island and resort has it's own reputation ie Beach Comber which is one of the first ones, is renown more as a party island. You will be able to get info on each island at the hotel you stay in Nadi. Also talk to people when you are there, they will fill you in or which one to go to and which to not. You can dive, snorkel, laze on the beautiful beaches, eat, go on fishing trips, jet ski etc at most of these resorts. Most defiantly worth a trip for a couple of nights to any of these islands. Another thing we did, which was worth the effort, is we hired a 4WD and went up into the mountains (this was on the other main island Vanuea Levu, which you can cheaply catch a plane to). This was wonderful for the people that live up there do not see tourists very often and were the most wonderful, hospitable and friendly people I have ever met (I have traveled a lot). They invited us into their homes, shared their food with us and laughed and smiled with us despite the language barrier. You get to experience the real way of Fijian life. If you do decide to do something like this, then I recommend that you take with you some gifts to give as a thanks you present. You can buy cans of Spam (which are popular) etc tools, toys for the kids etc and other foods which are not available in the high country and considered a luxury (note this does not have to be an expensive gift by any means). We also went for a beautiful horse ride along the beach in Nadi. There is a lot to do in Fiji, and you will fall in love with the people...they always have a friendly and honest smile for you. If you get a copy of the lonely planet (which in my opinion is a travel bible for every country) you can read up on things to do, where to stay, how much it will cost etc. Really hope that you enjoy your trip as much as I did and hope this helps you...(sorry it has been so long!!)
